Eye Examinations and Eye Health

At Fitzroy North Eye Centre we provide comprehensive eye examinations including thorough eye health assessments and determination of how your visual system works. We recommend that all people over the age of 40 have an eye health examination every 2 years. It is important that the eyes remain healthy as well as having good eye-co-ordination, alignment and teamwork. All our optometrists have therapeutic endorsement to prescribe topical S4 medications for ocular surface and anterior eye conditions. We are able to treat patients with acute or chronic sore eyes. We co-manage glaucoma with local ophthalmologists.

We have state of the art equipment and can diagnose and monitor conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. A standard examination includes:

  • Measurement of vision to determine if there is any myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness) or astigmatism.
  • Ocular health examination using ophthalmoscopy and slit-lamp biomicroscopy
  • Corneal thickness measurement (Pachymetry)
  • Digital Retinal Imaging
  • Intra-ocular pressure measurement for screening of glaucoma
  • Assessment of binocular co-ordination, eye alignment and eye teamwork
  • Eye Movements or tracking
  • Assessment of the eyes for contact lenses
  • Advice on lighting and visual requirements, glasses, contact lenses, vision therapy
